I CAN HEAR!!!!

Aunt Connie can't stop saying "I heard every word you said"!

We went to Costco on Sunday and Aunt Connie got her hearing aids.  That morning she was so excited but so scared she would not be able to hear.  After sitting through the long process of getting the hearing aids in, adjusted and going over all the neat things they can do she was in amazement that she could hear.

She was so happy to be able to hear us and what was going on in the store.  She is having some adjustment issues as does everyone who gets hearing aids for the first time.  They are hearing "AIDS" not hearing "REPLACEMENT".

She has been hard of hearing for so long that she still says "what" when you say something.  My mom is showing her she does not have to say that anymore.

She is so happy to be a part of the conversations at the dinner table, to be able to hear the TV.  She said before all she heard were muffles and would try to pick up a word and figure out what the person said.  She says she was usually wrong about her deduction of what someone said so she started not even trying to be a part of a conversation.  She didn't call anyone or talk to them for very long because she just couldn't hear them.
We are so happy to see her laughing and not staring!!!

Her only real challenge is the cell phone.  The girl at Costco said it's like dealing with a microphone.  When the hearing aid gets too close to the cell phone it squeels.  She has to hold it a little away from the phone.   My mom said you get used to it but Aunt Connie would prefer to use the land line - no squeeling because we put a rubber ring at the receiving end.  It cancels out the squeeling or whistling sound.

If you want to call Aunt Connie the home phone number is 770-565-3319
